A dynamic QR code is a QR code whose destination can be changed at any time, without printing a new code.
Instead of encoding a fixed URL directly into the pattern, a dynamic QR code points to a short link managed by Twilee. When someone scans it, Twilee redirects them to whatever destination you have set. Update that destination whenever you like: the printed code stays the same.
Why use dynamic QR codes?
Update without reprinting
Imagine you print 10,000 flyers with a QR code linking to a promotion page. The promotion ends, but the flyers are still out there. With a dynamic code, you simply change the destination to your new offer. No reprint needed, no wasted materials.
Track every scan
Every time someone scans your code, Twilee records it. You can see how many scans you received, where they came from (country, city), and when they happened. This data helps you understand which campaigns, locations, or materials drive the most engagement.
Stay in control
Need to take a link offline? You can disable a dynamic QR code instantly. Changed your mind? Re-enable it just as fast. You decide what content your audience sees, and you can adjust it at any moment.
How it works
- You create a QR code on Twilee and choose its type (URL, contact card, event, links page, etc.).
- Twilee generates a short link and embeds it into the QR code image.
- Someone scans the code. Their device opens the short link, Twilee logs the scan, and redirects them to your chosen destination.
- You update the destination whenever you need to. The QR code image never changes.
Common use cases
- Marketing campaigns: change the landing page as your campaign evolves.
- Product packaging: link to updated manuals, tutorials, or warranty pages.
- Restaurants and menus: update menu items or prices without reprinting.
- Events: share schedules, maps, or speaker bios that may change before the event.
- Business cards: keep your contact information current even after handing out cards.
Dynamic vs. static QR codes
A static QR code stores data directly in its pattern (for example, a Wi-Fi password). Once printed, it cannot be changed. A dynamic QR code stores only a short redirect link, so the actual destination lives on the server and can be updated freely.
