Dynamic QR Code Generator

Create a dynamic QR code that can be edited even after printing. Our dynamic QR code generator lets you update destinations, customize designs, and track scans, all without reprinting. With an editable QR code from Twilee, you stay in full control of your links and content.

How a dynamic QR code actually works

A static QR code carries its destination inside the pattern itself. Print it and the destination is fixed forever: a wrong link means a reprint. A dynamic QR code encodes a short Twilee URL instead, and that URL forwards to whatever destination you set. The pattern never has to change, so the printed code keeps working while the content behind it stays yours to edit.

That indirection is also what makes tracking possible. Because every scan passes through Twilee before reaching the destination, we can record how many scans happened, roughly where, on which device type, and when, without any script on the destination page. A static code cannot report any of this: it sends people straight to the target with nothing in between.

The redirection runs on infrastructure separate from the dashboard, so your printed codes keep resolving even during app maintenance. Redirects add a few milliseconds, which is not perceptible to the person scanning.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about dynamic QR codes.

What is a dynamic QR code? ▼

A dynamic QR code redirects through a short URL managed by Twilee. This means you can change the destination, track scans, and update content at any time without reprinting the code.

What is the difference between a static and a dynamic QR code? ▼

A static QR code encodes data directly into the pattern and cannot be changed after printing. A dynamic QR code points to a redirect URL, so you can update the destination, track scans, and manage the code from your dashboard.

Do dynamic QR codes expire? ▼

No. There is no expiration date, and paid plans include unlimited scans (subject to fair use). The free plan caps each dynamic QR code at 500 scans, after which it stops redirecting until you upgrade.

How many dynamic QR codes can I create? ▼

The number of QR codes you can create depends on your plan. Free accounts include a limited number of dynamic QR codes, while paid plans offer higher or unlimited quotas. Visit the pricing page for full details.

Can I turn an existing static QR code into a dynamic one? ▼

Not the printed code itself: a static code has its destination baked into the pattern, so it cannot be repointed. What you can do is create a dynamic QR code for the same content and use it from the next print run onward, which is why we recommend starting dynamic even when the destination looks final.

Does the redirect slow down the scan? ▼

No noticeably. The redirect adds a few milliseconds before the phone opens your destination, and it runs on infrastructure independent from the dashboard, so codes keep resolving even while the app is being updated.

Can I customize how the dynamic QR code looks? ▼

Yes. Colors, module shapes, a center logo and frames are all editable, and you can download the result as PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG. Design changes do not affect the destination, and vice versa.
